New journal highlights linkages with food systems and public health

Food is a critical factor in helping create conditions in communities to improve the health and well-being of children and families. And the Kellogg Foundation’s history in working with food systems illustrates the importance of addressing food in the context of the systems that produce and deliver good food to children, families and communities.

Last month’s issue of the Journal of Hunger & Environmental Nutrition offers groundbreaking interdisciplinary approaches and aligning priorities to improve the food system and the health of all children in our nation.

This publication grew out of a convening funded by the W.K. Kellogg Foundation, along with a number of other foundations, universities and government agencies. It explores ways to link public health and nutrition with agricultural production, environmental sustainability and economic development. Acknowledging the interdependency of health, environment and economy, this collection of papers illustrate the unprecedented opportunity to transform the food environments that impact the health of the most vulnerable children and families.
