BATTLE CREEK, Mich. – The W.K. Kellogg Foundation (WKKF) today announced the departure of Joanne Krell, vice president for communications, effective Jan. 31, 2016. Krell has accepted a significant role in Detroit, with a formal announcement to come in January.

“I will look back at my time at the Kellogg Foundation with great fondness,” said Krell. “I’ve been blessed to work with many smart and talented individuals and had the honor of working on behalf of children. Though I look forward to my next opportunity, I will without a doubt miss the Kellogg Foundation.”

After starting work at the Kellogg Foundation in May 2009, Krell led many successful communications efforts on behalf of the foundation, including the communications support for the launch of America Healing, redesigning a brand new WKKF.org and developing a focused employee engagement strategy using formal and informal communication processes and approaches. As the first vice president for communications, she provided a vision and approach to strategic communications that re-imagined how the foundation would staff the communications team and support the work of the organization, all the while helping to define and protect the foundation’s reputation.

“This is bittersweet news for the foundation and for me personally. I remember interviewing Joanne for this role when we didn’t have a centralized Communications strategy. We are grateful for her many contributions to this organization and wish her every success in her new role,” said La June Montgomery Tabron, president and CEO.

The Kellogg Foundation has already begun the process of identifying the next vice president for communications. For more information about this, visit our Employment page.

About the W.K. Kellogg Foundation

The W.K. Kellogg Foundation (WKKF), founded in 1930 as an independent, private foundation by breakfast cereal pioneer Will Keith Kellogg, is among the largest philanthropic foundations in the United States. Guided by the belief that all children should have an equal opportunity to thrive, WKKF works with communities to create conditions for vulnerable children so they can realize their full potential in school, work and life.

The Kellogg Foundation is based in Battle Creek, Michigan, and works throughout the United States and internationally, as well as with sovereign tribes. Special emphasis is paid to priority places where there are high concentrations of poverty and where children face significant barriers to success. WKKF priority places in the U.S. are in Michigan, Mississippi, New Mexico and New Orleans; and internationally, are in Mexico and Haiti.
