Project in Peru Changes Public Policy

For the past year, The Social Solidarity Studies Center, from the region of Chiclayo, in Peru, has been receiving the support of the Kellogg Foundation. The project, which aims to promote youth leadership and submit proposals for municipal development plans, has  already produced some firm results. Two such proposals have actually resulted in changes to local public policy. In one of the four participating municipalities, youngsters from the center serve on a regional steering committee that plans and evaluates the issues that ought to be addressed by municipal policy. In another, the government is promoting youth participation in a program to train tourist guides.
