In his Elm Street Writers Group article, Utne magazine editor Jay Walljasper celebrates his love affair with European cities. He says cities like Paris and Amsterdam are so wonderful not because they are so old, but because their modern-day development policies are well thought out. Residents do not allow the auto invasion to go too far and instead insist on plenty of terrific alternatives for getting around, including broad sidewalks, quality bus and train systems, and bike paths. It’s not too late for American cities, but first we must start embracing the idea of cities again. Read his piece here:
