Supporting Haitian-led progress
In Haiti, communities are leading change for their children and families. They are spreading hope, owning their collective power, and working toward a shared vision to realize a future they imagine together. Oftentimes, that’s not the narrative you hear about Haiti. Yet, we know it’s true because for decades we have seen firsthand the power of local grantees collaboratively laying the groundwork for systemic change across the country. These bright spots, or pockets of hope, are illuminating what’s possible for children, families and communities in Haiti.
While our investments focus on regions in central and southwestern Haiti, the collaborations supporting education, food systems and health reverberate across the country. Showcasing what’s possible in Haiti became the foundation for our campaign called Pockets of Hope. We’re sharing stories of these groundbreaking, locally led initiatives to inspire and facilitate funder-implemented partnerships to build systems and structures in Haiti that support children, families and communities.
Despite challenges and setbacks in Haiti, we continue to reflect with and listen to our partners there about how we can best support the country while insecurity grips the capital. We’ve learned it’s more important than ever to stay committed to expanding philanthropic investment to support the work of tremendous Haitian-led organizations that are working tirelessly to ensure a promising future for Haiti. In Sept. 2023, we committed $30 million to important, locally led initiatives in Haiti over the next three years and called on others to collectively commit double that amount, to meet a total investment goal of $90 million.
