In February of 2003, Governor Granholm, with bipartisan support from House and Senate leadership, appointed the 26-member Michigan Land Use Leadership Council (MLULC), and charged them with developing recommendations to minimize the negative effects of current and projected land use patterns on Michigan’s environment and economy. The Council generated 160 recommendations, issued in August, 2003.
Sixteen months later, on December 2, 2004, the new class of freshman legislators assembled to attend an orientation designed to highlight critical issues they will be asked to address during their term of office. For the first time, land use issues were included as part of that concise, important agenda. The linked brochure, “Michigan’s Land, Michigan’s Future: Progress on Recommendations from the Michigan Land Use Leadership Council” was prepared for that meeting.
