A national initiative will provide a “SPARK” to grantees in seven states and the District of Columbia to unite community resources to better prepare children for school. Eight grantees in the W.K. Kellogg Foundation SPARK (Supporting Partnerships to Assure Ready Kids) initiative will receive awards of at least $4 million each to implement five-year plans that seek to increase school readiness of children who are likely to start school unprepared. The initiative seeks to improve children’s learning by smoothing the transition to school and aligning preschool and elementary school settings.
