In Grand Rapids, we’re all about access. In this city, rich with tremendous opportunity and resources, we aim to ensure everyone can participate – especially people of color. That’s why we lean in to support what we call neighborhoods of focus, areas of the city’s near south and west sides that have the greatest racial disparities in education, health and economic opportunities.
Early childhood care and education for children, from birth through age 8, play a critical role in a child’s future. Yet it is one of the most under-resourced and inequitably distributed sectors in communities throughout the country, including Grand Rapids.
Local research shows that many health-promoting resources – like education, transportation and homeownership – are unevenly distributed within Grand Rapids, with our Neighborhoods of Focus being more disinvested than other city neighborhoods
Children can thrive when their families are financially secure.
