Facilitating Community-wide Conversations

New Orleanians are contributing their voices, expertise and ideas to create a more equitable city – one where every child thrives. During the height of the pandemic, our partners immersed across all issue areas – early child care, health, food and jobs – dreamed up a space to bring people together to authentically discuss the needs, the hopes and the dreams of children and families in New Orleans.

What unfolded became a campaign called I Am New Orleans. Set off by a series of community gatherings – first virtual and then in person – people of all ages and walks of life have gathered to learn, to discuss ideas and to identify solutions that create a more equitable New Orleans.

From intergenerational conversations around food access and employment opportunities, to discussions on how to reduce maternal deaths in communities of color and increase access to early learning, I Am New Orleans has become a platform for the city’s residents, leaders and stakeholders to powerfully unite to advance racial equity.
