This one-hour documentary explores how three rural communities in Arizona, Montana, and North Carolina tackle injustices such as lack of access to transportation, poverty, inadequate housing, discrimination, and health care that produce poor population health outcomes and disease in their communities. These three communities were part of the Turning Point initiative funded by the Kellogg Foundation. A diary will supplement the documentary to stimulate community dialogue about how non-health-related social and economic inequities impact individual and population health.
The video, “Common Ground: Health, Rural America, and the Struggle for Justice” was produced by the National Association of City and County Health Officials, the national program office for the local Turning Point communities. It will be available in early 2004. To reserve your copy today, call (202) 783-5550, ext. 251 or email abradby@naccho.org.
