New Mexico is living up to its promise to move from being the worst state in the nation to raise a child, to being among one of the best. In the most recent budget adopted by the New Mexico state legislature and recently signed into law by Gov. Bill Richardson, $1.2 million will be directed toward statewide ENLACE educational and student leadership efforts in recurring dollars. Additionally, ENLACE Family Centers will receive $1.5 million in recurring dollars, and a one-time allocation of $500,000 to assist state-wide drop-out prevention efforts. Going forward, ENLACE will be assured of a minimum of $2.7 million in state appropriations on an annual basis. The goal is to add to that total in future years via the annual appropriations process that appears to be serving them so well.
