New Year’s Day Attack in New Orleans: How to Help

New Year’s celebrations on Bourbon Street were met with tragedy this year, but the New Orleans community, including WKKF grantees, has quickly mobilized to support those impacted by the devastating attack. This response reflects the city’s deep care and compassion—a community that has faced countless disasters and crises and continues to show up for one another, even as the weight of these challenges grows heavier.
In the wake of the attack that claimed 14 lives and left dozens injured, organizations like the Greater New Orleans Foundation, a WKKF grantee, swiftly established support funds, and residents lined up to donate blood. These efforts demonstrate the unwavering commitment of New Orleanians to care for their neighbors, even amidst profound grief.
The W.K. Kellogg Foundation joins in mourning this tragic loss of life and extends heartfelt condolences to the families and communities affected. We remain steadfast in our commitment to working alongside our New Orleans partners to address both the immediate and long-term needs arising from this tragedy.
