Statement of support for new breastfeeding resources

The W.K. Kellogg Foundation commends Kaiser Permanente’s “Improving Hospital Breastfeeding Support Implementation Toolkit,” which helps physicians, nurses and care teams promote breastfeeding in the hospital setting. The foundation also commends the U.S. Department of Health & Human Services’ “It’s Only Natural” campaign, which aims to raise awareness among African American women of the importance of and benefits associated with breastfeeding.

The Kellogg Foundation believes that all children deserve a healthy start in life. Medical studies show that babies who breastfeed or receive exclusive access to breast milk for the first six months of life have better health, educational and emotional outcomes. WKKF also believes we can dramatically improve children’s health, as well as our country’s health, by ensuring more babies benefit from breast milk as their first food experience.

As part of our commitment to improving the lives of vulnerable children, WKKF partners with a number of national, state and local organizations across the United States committed to supporting mothers and families who want to breastfeed so that more babies benefit from breast milk as their first food experience. These investments support an emerging network interested in giving children the healthiest start possible.

WKKF applauds Kaiser Permanente and the It’s Only Natural campaign for raising awareness around first food opportunities and taking proactive steps to increase breastfeeding rates throughout the United States.
